Mit dem Einkaufen fortfahrenNowadays it seems that every product and every food we buy is full chemicals that are in one way or another harmful for us and the planet.
But there are a few you can avoid. If you want to avoid all the chemicals present in the common laundry detergent, including surfactants that are terrible for the planet, you have some choices. You can read a bit more about surfactants.
As with all the products for cleaning – including for face and body, as we have been writing about – you can do your own laundry detergent at home. In case you don’t have the patience or the time (you will see it’s very easy), you can also buy soap nuts, a berry shell that contains a natural cleaning agent.
But we are going to give you a recipe for an ecological laundry detergent- nowadays soap nuts are not so sustainable since their price has gone up and native people that once used them can’t now afford anymore.
For powder homemade detergent use:
160 gr. castile soap bar (ideally palm oil-free)
240 gr. baking soda
240gr. washing soda
Grate a castile bar soap into flakes, mix all the ingredients, blend them in a blender and… it’s done. You can add two or three drops of essential oil (lavender, lemon or other) if you’d like to have a nice fragrance in your clothes.
Use 1 or 2 tablespoon per load.
If you prefer a liquid laundry detergent, you can use the exact same recipe but add hot water instaead. 1 liter to 40 gr. of castile soap.
The day after, it will be thicker and you’ll just need to add the same amount of cold water. Use 1 or 2 dl per load.
As you can see, it’s so easy and cheap to do your own laundry detergent that you don’t really need to use the ones that are loaded with harmful chemicals for you skin and for the environment. You can be creative and add some essential oils that provide a natural fragrance and can be personalized regarding your mood or condition.
It sounds perfect, doesn’t it?
