Make Your Own Body Skin Care

diy plastic free body skincare

We already gave you some suggestions about face skincare and how you can do your own serum and spend less money and plastic bottles. Now we are going to focus on body skincare.

Conventional products come in (not recyclable) plastic packaging and have a lot of bad ingredients, like parabens, sulfates and triclosan, products that can cause endocrine problems as well as all kinds of allergies. If you do your own skincare, you are not only saving money but also controlling what you put in your body.

You can choose to buy from sustainable brands like Dr. Hauschka but you still have the packaging problem. You can buy bulk skincare but still you can also produce them at home without spending much time or money and choosing the appropriate ingredients for your skin type. You can even add some essential oils that not only can treat skin but also transform your daily routine in something pleasant.

Your daily body routine should clean and moisturize your skin. You should only exfoliate both body and face once or twice a week, although the body is less exposed than the face. Exfoliation will remove dead skin cells from your skin’s surface, giving space for new cells to grow and letting the topical products you apply to be more effective. If you don’t exfoliate regularly, you might have some patches of dry skin and clogged pores. There are two types of exfoliation: chemical (enzymatic) or chemical exfoliation and physical. The physical exfoliation requires manual and gentle rubbing but usually the products you buy have microplastic beads – check here.

So you can try doing it at home like this:
  • 2 soup spoons of sugar (depending on how sensitive your skin is)
  • 1 soup spoon of coffee (you can use the coffee ground you have at home)
  • 2 soup spoons of oil, sweet almond oil for example or even olive oil (or a mixture of both)
This is the base. Then:
  • 1 drop of essential oil of your choice
  • 1 desert spoon of cocoa (which is a powerful antioxidant)
You mix these ingredients very well and rub gently through the whole body and wash afterwards. Do this once a week, every week, and you will get a snow whiteskin while not harming the planet. Isn’t it perfect?
