DIY Lip Balm: Soothe Your Lips with this Homemade Recipe

When it comes to taking care of our skin, our lips often get overlooked. However, just like the rest of our body, they need some TLC too! That's where homemade lip balm comes to the rescue specially when the cold days are starting. In this blog post, we'll show you how to make a simple yet effective lip balm using natural ingredients you probably already have in your pantry. Say goodbye to dry, chapped lips and hello to a DIY solution that's both fun and nourishing.

Ingredients:

  1. 2 tablespoons candelilla wax (or soy wax for a softer texture)
  2. 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  3. 1 tablespoon shea butter
  4. 1/2 tablespoon cocoa butter
  5. Optional: a few drops of essential oil for fragrance (e.g., peppermint, lavender, or vanilla)

Equipment:

  1. Double boiler or microwave-safe bowl
  2. Small containers or lip balm tubes for storing the finished product

Instructions:

Step 1: Sterilize Your Containers As with any skincare product, it's important to start with clean containers. Wash your small containers or lip balm tubes with hot, soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and let them air dry.

Step 2: Melt Your Ingredients In a double boiler or a microwave-safe bowl, combine the candelilla wax (or soy wax), coconut oil, shea butter, and cocoa butter. If using a microwave, heat the mixture in 20-30 second intervals, stirring in between, until everything is fully melted. When using a double boiler, heat the mixture over low to medium heat until it's completely melted. Be cautious not to overheat or burn the ingredients.

Step 3: Add Fragrance (Optional) If you'd like to add a delightful scent to your lip balm, this is the time to do it. Add a few drops of your preferred essential oil to the melted mixture and stir thoroughly. Pick your favorite essential oil, such as refreshing peppermint, relaxing lavender, or sweet vanilla.

Step 4: Fill Your Containers Carefully pour the liquid vegan lip balm into your prepared containers or tubes. Make sure to fill them to the top but leave a little space for the balm to contract as it cools.

Step 5: Let it Cool Allow the lip balm to cool and solidify completely. This might take a few hours, but you can speed up the process by placing the containers in the refrigerator.

Step 6: Seal and Label Once your homemade vegan lip balm has solidified, seal the containers or tubes with their caps and label them if desired. Your cruelty-free lip balm is now ready to use!

This vegan lip balm recipe is not only kind to animals but also kind to your lips, keeping them moisturised and protected. By creating your own lip balm, you have control over the ingredients, ensuring they are all vegan.
